Obituary of Milma Carlson HOUGHTONMilma H. Carlson, 92, a resident of Heritage Manor in Houghton passed away Saturday March 3, 2012, at the Portage Hospital in Hancock where she had been a patient.She was born on July 1, 1919, in Liminga, a daughter of the late John and Hannah (Lustig) Porkka. Milma was raised in Liminga and graduated from the Hancock High School with the class of 1937.On July 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Clifford Carlson. The couple moved to Hancock to raise their family. Mrs. Carlson resided in Hancock until moving to make her home at Hertiage Manor in Houghton twenty years ago.Milma was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Houghton, and a former member of the Paavola Senior Citizens. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working crossword puzzles, playing scrabble, having Gino's spaghetti, but she enjoyed spending time with her family most.Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her infant children; Earl John and twin daughters, Judith Agnes, and Marilyn Joan, her sisters; Hilma Kilpela and Agnes Makela, and her brothers; Emil, Abel, William, Raymond, and Wesley.Surviving are: Her children: Gerald Carlson of Hancock Bruce (Cheryl) Carlson of LauriumGail (Joseph Krezman) Carlson of ChassellHer grandchildren: Margie (Roger) Gronlund, Brad (Joni) Carlson, Brian (Melissa) Carlson, Terri (Eric) Deatrick, Michael (Arin) Carlson, Timm (Myra) Carlson, Joseph Schwenk, Alex Schwenk and Alison (Leaf) Street.13 great grandchildrenHer sister: Edna Emki of Sterling Heights, MI Her brother: Alfred Porkka of Surprise, AZNumerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Funeral services for Milma will be held 1 pm Wednesday March 7, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Gerry Southerton to officiate.
