Obituary of Miriam Kemppainen Houghton Mrs. Miriam "Merla" (Harold) Kemppainen, 84, a resident of Houghton and former Dollar Bay resident passed away Thursday evening January 25, 2007, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident for the past two months. She was born on August 19, 1922, in Dollar Bay, a daughter of the late Otto and Rose (Jackola) Lahikainen. Miriam was a graduate of the Dollar Bay High School with the class of 1940. Mrs. Kemppainen had worked as an accountant for the Copper Country Dairy, for the Michigan Technological University Library, and as an accountant for Northern Niemela Construction Company. On September 17, 1966, she was united in marriage to Harold Kemmpainen. Miriam was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. She enjoyed pencil drawing, reading, art and listing to classical music. Preceding her in death where 7 brothers & sisters: Eino, William, Edwin, Arnold, Alma, Milma, and Sylvia Surviving are: Her husband: Harold Kemppainen a resident of Arbor Green, Houghton 2 Brothers: George "Walfred" Lahikainen a resident patient at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette Raymond (June) Lahikainen of Houghton A special friend for over the last 35 years from the Big Brothers program: Rodney (Susan) Thompson of Dollar Bay Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins Funeral service for Miriam will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday January 28, 2007, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services.
