Obituary of Myra Jane Walitalo ArnheimMyra J. Walitalo, 76, a former resident of Arnheim, passed away Thursday afternoon May 26, 2016, at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital following a short illness.She was born on June 5, 1939, in Hancock, MI, a daughter of the late Peter and Tyyne (Wesman) Kinnunen. She was raised in Arnheim and was a graduate of the Baraga High School.On July 14, 1956, she was united in marriage to Robert Walitalo. The couple had resided in Baraga, Keweenaw Bay, Ontonagon and for 47 years back in Arnheim. On April 13, 2012, Robert preceded Myra in death.Mrs. Walitalo was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, Chassell VFW Post #6507 Axillary. For many years Myra helped organize and operate the Keweenaw Bay elections.Preceding her in death were her husband Robert, her son Glenn, her parents, her daughter-in-law Susan and a grandson Lucas. Her brother Roy and her sister Pauline Ross.Surviving are: Her children: Roberta (Ron) Tapani of ChassellBruce (Wendy) Walitalo of Arnheim9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildrenHer brother and sisters: Peter (Helen) Kinnunen of Atlatnic MineElsie Kahila a resident patient of Portage PointPearl (Stan) Rajala of MarquetteGloria (Reuben)Niemisto of BaragaBeverly LeMaster of Waterford, MI Numerous nieces nephews, cousins and many friends.Funeral services for Myra will be held 11 am Tuesday May 31, 2016, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Joe Iverson to officiate.
