Nancy Olson (Kokko)

Obituary of Nancy Sarah Lillian Olson Hancock Nancy (Tom) Olson, 86, a resident of Hancock passed away Friday afternoon February 1, 2019, at home surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy & Courageous battle with dementia. She was born on November 28, 1932, in Pewabic Location, a daughter of the late Matt and Hilda (Kinnunen) Kokko. Nancy was raised in Klingville and was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1951. Nancy then moved to Hancock where she worked as a clerk for Quality Foods. On July 16, 1960, she was united in marriage to Thomas Olson. Mrs. Olson stayed home to help raise their five children. She then began a career as a nurses Aide worked for Janis Home Health Care retiring after 17 years. Mrs. Olson enjoyed spending countless hours at the family cottage in Keweenaw Bay, visiting family and friends daily. She truly loved her winter trips with Tom to Florida to visit their son Tom Jr. Nancy never left the house without a camera, she loved taking pictures, berry picking, baking and giving out free hugs. She adored all children and animals. Preceding her in death were her Parents, 11 Siblings, her daughter-in-law: Debbie Olson (Tom Jr.s wife) and her grandson Brandon Olson. Surviving are: Her husband: Tom Olson of Hancock Her children: Tom Olson Jr. of Seminal, FL Michael Olson of Hancock Brian (Cynthia) Olson of Pelkie Jennifer Olson of Hancock David Olson and fiancé Amy Kerscher of Green Bay Her grandchildren: Mariah, Shelby and Nyomie Her great-granddaughter: Aubrey Her brother-in-law: Donald Liljequist of Ishpeming Her sister-in-law: Hilja Kokko of Keweenaw Bay Several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends Her best friend of over 70 years Margaret Paulson of Marquette A private graveside service for Nancy will be held later this spring in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Nancys family is very grateful for the care given to her by UP Health Systems Home Care and Hospice. They would like to thank all the staff who went above and beyond in Nancys final days.
