Obituary of Osmo Karna Houghton Osmo Erkki Matti Karna, 90, of Houghton died Tuesday September 27, 2005, at the Portage Health Systems Hospital in Hancock where he had been a patient for the past 4 days. Prior to that he had been resident patient at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home since May 2004. Osmo was born February 24, 1915, in Baltic, MI, son of Erkki and Ida (Perala) Karna. He attended Painesdale schools. Osmo worked in the Painesdale Mine, Ironwood Mine, as a Marquette Prison Guard, in construction in Detroit and locally for Yalmer Mattila. He married Lillian Kemppainen on June 5, 1937, in Pelkie, MI. Preceding him in death were brothers Urho, Severi, Wesley, and Aulie, sister Laila, & an infant sister Martha. Surviving are: His wife Lillian a resident patient at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home A brother: Paul of Norway, MI A sister: Irene (Ted) Kokko of South Range, MI Numerous nieces and nephews, Funeral services for Osmo will be held on Friday at 3 P.M. in the Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Rev. James Gallagher to officiate. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range. Friends may call on Friday at the church for 1 hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be given to Grace Lutheran Church of South Range.
