Otto G. Ruehr

Dr. Otto George Ruehr, 91, passed away at home in Houghton on August 24, 2024.

He was born December 19, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, son of Reinhold Ruehr and Louise Ruehr (née Kranz).

On August 28, 1954, he married Ruthann Ruehr (née Richwine) and they were together until her death in 2020.

He received a BS, MS, and PhD in Mathematics from the University of Michigan, and taught mathematics at Michigan Technological University from 1967 to 1997. He was also an avid runner, including many marathons, and enjoyed bicycling, cross-country skiing, and playing piano.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Susan Zielke, and his brothers Norman and William Ruehr.

He is survived by his son Erik Ruehr (Pam Rothberg) and grandchild, Amelia Ruehr; son Fritz Ruehr (Carol Goldfarb) and grandchildren Freya and Talia Ruehr; and daughter Elena Ruehr (Seward Rutkove) and grandchild Sophie Ruehr.
