Obituary of Paul Belkonen Atlantic Mine Paul A. Belkonen, 80, a resident of Chippewa St., Atlantic Mine, passed away Tuesday morning May 2, 2006, at his home. He was born on January 17, 1926, in Gay, a son of the late Anselm and Lydia (Kaikonen) Asunmaa. As a child Paul lived in the Detroit area and attended the local schools graduating from Central High School. After high school Paul attended Michigan Technological University. Mr. Belkonen was a veteran having served with the United States Navy during World War II as a Coxswain in the Southwest Pacific. On August 29, 1947 he was united in marriage to the former Jean Latvala. They resided in Detroit where Paul worked for Robbins Engineering until 1957 when they moved to White Pine, MI, where Paul worked for White Pine Mine for the next 28 years, retiring in 1982. Paul was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine, and a lifetime member of Post #6165 V.F.W. of South Range. Preceding him in death where his parents Anselm & Lydia (Kaikonen) Asunmaa, Andrew & Alpha Palkki, and Ida & Oscar Belcome, 3 Sisters: Helmi England, Helen Kemppainen, and Elma Ellis; 1 Brother: Arthur Tulppo. Surviving are: his wife Jean Belkonen of Atlantic Mine 1 Daughter: Diane Merritt of Green Bay, WI 2 Sons: Alan (Mary) Belkonen of Sutton's Bay, MI Clay (LeAnn) Belkonen of Chelsea, MI 2 Grandchildren: Tim (Sarah) Merritt of Millwaukee, WI Karen Merritt of Green Bay, WI 1 Brother: Wayne (Jean) Asunmaa of Calumet, MI A Special friend: Joe Podner of Atlantic Mine Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Paul will be held 11 A.M. this Saturday May 6, 2006, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate. Friends may call on Friday May 5, 2006, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 5 to 8 P.M. and on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services at the Church.
