Obituary of Paul Laurn Hancock Paul A. Laurn, age 94, a former resident of Hancock, passed away early Sunday morning, Sept. 18, 2005, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home, in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient for the past 2 months. Prior to that he was a resident of Stillwaters Community Elders Home in Calumet for 2 1/2 years. He was born on April 20, 1911, in Baraga, a son of the late William & Jenny (Kauppi) Laurn. He lived in Baraga as a child, then in Hancock as a youth, later living in Highland Park, MI until he returned to make his home in Hancock after his retirement. Paul worked for the Chevrolet Gear & Axle Company until his retirement. During WW II, he served in the U.S. Army. On December 6, 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Sallie I. Kyllonen & she preceded him in death, in May of 1963. He was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. Besides his wife & parents he was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Louis, Silas, Thomas, Harry, & Frederick & 1 sister; Isabelle Nicholls. Surviving are: 1 Son, Richard P. Laurn of Falls Church, VA Several Nieces, Nephews & Cousins. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 A.M. at the Mountain View Cemetery in South Range, with Rev. Susan Odegard to officiate. As requested by the deceased there will be no visitation. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock is serving the family.
