Obituary of Phyllis Kuusisto Jacobsville Phyllis K. (Ernie) Kuusisto, 58, a resident of Jacobsville, passed away Sunday afternoon at Marquette General Hospital. She fought a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was born on March 19, 1952, in Hancock a daughter of Aune (Luoma) Lahnala and the late Edward Lahnala. She was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1970. On July 18, 1970, she was united in marriage to Edward "Ernie" Kuusisto, together the couple have resided in Lake Linden, Phoenix, AZ, Lantana, FL, Battleground, WA, and for the past five years have made their home in Jacobsville. During that time, Phyllis had worked various retail sales jobs. She had also owned and operated her own child care business. While residing out west, Phyllis was active with the Pioneer Club children's ministry and women's Bible study, a mentor to young people. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and was known as Grandma Phyllis to many. Mrs. Kuuisisto was a member of the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church. Preceding her in death were her daughter Karen Sue, her grandson Roman Tapio, her father Edward Lahnala, infant brother Wallace, infant sister Sandra Luoise, brother-n-law Bill Lahti, nephew Dan Lahti, great nephew Collin Erkkila. Surviving are: Her husband; Ernie Kuusisto of Jacobsville Her children; Lisa (David) Tapio of Long Beach, WA Jamie Kuusisto of Mesa, AZ Her grandchildren; Ashley, Ryan, Natalie and Zachary Tapio Her mother; Aune Lanhala a resident patient at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home Her brother; Erland (Barbara) Lahnala of Atlantic Mine Her sisters; Beatrice Lahti of Mohawk Laura (Hartley) Collins of Liminga Aunts Mercedes Luoma and Elsie Luoma Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Phyllis will be held 2 pm Friday July 16, 2010, at the Laurium Apostolic Lutheran Church with Revs. Rodney Johnson and Travis Seppala to officiate. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday July 15, 2010, from 5 to 7:00 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
