Obituary of Ralph Manninen Gladwin Ralph W. Manninen, 81, a former resident of Arbor Green , Houghton, and N. Grosse Pointe Shores in Dollar Bay, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Gladwin Hospital, in Gladwin, MI on Wednesday, November 24, 2004. He was born in Detroit, a son of the late Sakari and Elsa Manninen, and resided there until moving to Hibbing,MN where he graduated from the Hibbing High School. After graduation he was married to the former Eva Ann Davidson, and they had 1 daughter, Carole. He later was united in marriage to the former Lillian E. Malgren on April 1, 1944, she preceded him in death on August 12, 1996. He was a member of the United States Army. Ralph built a home on North Grosse Pointe Shores, were he spent many enjoyable years with his wife Lillian. After his wife Lillian passed away he lived at Arbor Green in Houghton. He enjoyed deer hunting, turkey hunting, fishing, and traveling. He worked for Vollwerth and Company for 36 years before he retired. Also preceding him in death was a daughter Ellen M. Goodrich in 1981. Surviving are: 3 daughters: Nancy (Lundy) Castro of Hancock Barbara (Ronald) Kommes of Sturgeon Bay, WI Laura (David) Clarke of Hillsdale, MI 1 Son: Ralph R. (Liisa) Manninen of Kenton, MI 9 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren 1 Daughter: Carole (Richard) Chiodi of Hibbing, MN 1 Sister: Mrs. Senja Pietila of Bootjack Several nieces, nephews, & cousins Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at 11 A.M. in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock, with Rev. Steven Carlson to officiate. Spring burial to be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call on Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
