Obituary of Raymond Porkka Liminga Raymond L. Porkka, 80, a resident of Liminga Rd., passed away Sunday morning March 25, 2007, at Omega House in Houghton where he had been a resident for the past week. He was born on June 1, 1926, in Liminga a son of the late John and Hannah (Lustig) Porkka. As a child he attended school in Liminga, Redridge,and graduated from the Houghton High School. Ray was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Korean War. On March 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to the former Elaine Ollila. Mr. Porkka was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Liminga. He also was a member of Elmer Perkins Post #304 American Legion of South Range, a life long member of the Farmer Bureau, and the Stanton Senior Citizens. Ray loved to farm. He was a farmer his whole life first with potatoes, and dairy cows, and more recently with Ginseng. He also worked for White Pine for 13 years retiring in 1982. Preceding him in death were his parents, 1 sister: Hilma, and 4 Brothers: Wesley, Emil, William and Abel. Surviving are: His wife Elaine of Liminga 3 Sons: Bruce Porkka of Liminga John (Carol) Porkka of Liminga Leo (Holly) Porkka of Brookfield, WI 1 Daughter: Karen (Paul) Downes of Lansing, MI 19 Loving Grandchildren 3 Sisters: Edna Emki, Milma Carlson, and Agnes Makela 1 Brother: Alfred (Margaret) Porkka Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends Funeral services for Ray will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday March 28, 2007, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Paul Isaacson to officiate. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery where the Copper Country Veterans Association will hold military rites. Friends may call on Tuesday March 27, 2007, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 12 noon until time of the services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials may be given to the Leukemia Foundation or to the charity of one's choice.
