Obituary of Rebecca Macindoe Sandretto Houghton Rebecca "Rita" Sandretto, 89, a resident of Houghton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at her home with her family at her side. Rita was born on July 6, 1918, in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Campbell. She moved to the United States at a young age and lived in Dearborn and then Livonia, Michigan. In May of 1996 she moved to Houghton after retiring as Librarian from Alfred Nobel Library in Livonia. She was married December 22, 1956 to the late John "Jack" Sandretto. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1997. Rita was a very kind and generous lady who always thought first of others and supported many community organizations and charitable causes. Surviving are one daughter, Susan (Stephen) Stackhouse, of Houghton, two grandchildren, Scott and Sarah Stackhouse of Houghton; one brother Ronald (Blondelle) Campbell of Monroe; numerous nieces, and nephews. As requested by the deceased, there will be no visitation or funeral service and the body will be cremated. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, the Omega House or a charity of ones own choice.
