Obituary of Reino Hakala Snake River Hill Reino F. Hakala, 90, a resident of Snake River Hill passed away early Monday morning February 25, 2013, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past month. He was born on July 2, 1922, in Hurontown, a son of the late Nels and Amila (Onkalo) Hakala. As a child, he attended the Houghton Schools. Mr. Hakala had attended the CCC Camps before serving his country with the United States Army during World War II. Following his service time Reino worked for various farms in the Copper Country before moving to Illinois to become a welder working for International Harvester, retiring after 27 years. He then moved back to Isle Royal Location before making his home on Snake River Hill since 1986. His wife Betty Hakala preceded him in death in 1986. Reino was a hard worker that always gave his all to every project. Preceding him in death were his wife, his parents, his brothers: Elmer, Henry, and Urho. Surviving are: His sister-in-law: Martha Hakala of Hancock His nieces and nephew: Arlene (Alfred) Gunnari of Mohawk Keith (Kathy) Hakala of Royal Oak, MI Dorothy Balding of Lawrenceville, GA Kimberly (Glenn) Miller of Montgomery, AL Numerous cousins A graveside service for Reino with military rites will be held 2 pm Thursday May 23, 2013 in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton.
