Obituary of Richard Wiitanen Burien, WA Richard M. Wiitanen, 72, a resident of Burien, WA, and former Hancock resident passed away March 10, 2013, following a 4 month illness. He was born on February 14, 1941, in Hancock, a son of the late Axel and Siami (Saari) Wiitanen. He was a graduate of the Hancock High School and Michigan Technological University with a business degree. Richard was a veteran having served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He then moved to the west coast to work for Boeing Corporation in Seattle, WA. Richard returned to the Copper Country for a few years where he was a radio sportscaster and the voice of the Copper Country Chief's hockey team. He then returned to Seattle and Boeing Corporation, where he retired after 25 years. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brothers Ronald, Herbert and Paul. Surviving are: His wife Chris and her children Jerry & Jeff His children: Erik Wiitanen and Amy Kissner His step-children from his first marriage; Donna, Michelle and Leanne. His grandsons: Jayde, Daniel, Matthew and Joshua His sister: Barbara (Ben) Holmes of Kent, WA His brother: David (Gladys) Wiitanen of Hancock, MI Several nieces, nephews, and cousins Richard was laid to rest March 22, 2013, in the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA.
