Obituary of Robert Kananen ChassellRobert W. (Patti) Kananen, 79, a resident of Chassell passed away Wednesday November 23, 2011, at Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past two years.He was born on April 27, 1932, in Agate Falls, MI, a son of the late Waino and Emma Kananen. He graduated from the Trout Creek School with the class of 1951. Mr. Kananen was a veteran having served with the United States Army in German during the Korean War.Bob drove a logging truck until entering the Army. Following his time in the service, Bob worked on the Great Lakes until becoming employed with UPS where he retired from in August of 1994, after 30 years of service.On October 10, 1970, he was united in marriage to the former Patricia Maki.Robert enjoyed downhill skiing, fishing, making firewood and camping in the summer at various campgrounds across the Upper Peninsula.Preceding him in death were his parents and his step-father George Leinonen.Surviving are: His wife: Patricia Kananen of ChassellHis brother: Ronald (Ann) Kananen of GladstoneHis sisters: Virgina Sjogren of Trout CreekShirley (Jack) Matthews of Traverse CityNumerous nieces, nephews & cousinsHis brother-in-law: Mike (Lynn) Maki of Bloomington, MNFuneral services for Bob will be held 3 pm Sunday November 27, 2011, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ron Strobel to officiate.
