Obituary of Robert Tuohimaa Houghton Canal District Robert E. Tuohimaa, 77, a resident of the Houghton Canal District passed away at his home Sunday evening, May 29, 2005, following a lengthy illness. He was born on December 20, 1927, in Painesdale, a son of the late Henry & Hilda (Heikkinen) Tuohimaa. Robert was a graduate of the Jeffer's High School. He later lived in the Tapiola area before making his home in the Houghton Canal Area for approximately 56 years. Mr. Tuohimaa was a veteran having served with the United States Army. On November 11, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Marie Romppainen. Bob had worked at the former Stella Cheese Co. as a young man, and later was a welder for Manninen's, and did carpentry work before becoming employed at Finlandia University as a night watchman.. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as hunting & fishing. He enjoyed reading very much. Surviving are: His wife: Marie at home 2 Sons: Clyde (Joanne Koltermann) Tuohimaa of Linwood, WA Dan Tuohimaa of the Houghton Canal District 4 Daughters: Cathy (Del) Hamilton of South Range Jane Lake of Liminga Julie (David) Laban of Oskar Bay Dianne (Charles) Huhta of the Houghton Canal District 15 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren 2 Sisters: Lorraine Kommes of Tapiola Sylvia (Arnold) Pesola of St. Sault Marie, MI 2 Brothers: David (Pauline) Tuohimaa of Tapiola John (Lin) Tuohimaa of Beulah, MI 3 Step Sisters: Marion, Betty, & Jane 1 Aunt: Ann Lorenz of Fond Du Lac, WI Numerous, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins As requested by the deceased there will be a private memorial service. Interment will be in the Oskar Cemetery. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock has been selected to serve the family.
