Roberta Noetzel

Chassell

Roberta C. Noetzel, 82, a resident of Chassell passed away on February 25th at her home with family by her side.

She was born on December 23, 1939, in Tri-Mountain, Michigan, the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth (Richard) Noetzel. Roberta was raised in Houghton and graduated from the Houghton High School in 1958. She then attended the Suomi College in Hancock, graduating in 1961 with an associate degree in Commerce.

After graduating from Suomi, Roberta worked for the Suomi Synod of the Lutheran Church before moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work for the Regional Director of the Board of American Missions of the Lutheran Church. After several years, she returned to Houghton and worked for the Financial Aids Officer at Michigan Tech. Before entering the University of Michigan in 1969, Roberta worked for several years as the governess to the family of Congressman Philip Ruppe in Washington, DC. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1971 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. She then returned to the Copper Country and started a 27-year career teaching 3rd grade for the Chassell Township Schools. Teaching and working with children were her passion.

Roberta was extremely active in the community and her church. She was active at the local, district, and Synod levels of the Lutheran Church. She started being a Lutheran at the Good Shephard Lutheran Church in Houghton. She was currently a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell, where she was involved in many different roles, activities, and offices. Roberta enjoyed volunteering with Portage Pointe, her church, and anywhere that help was needed. She also supported the Omega House. Another big passion of Roberta’s was Quilting, both doing it and teaching it. She also had a passion for card making and giving them. Roberta loved to travel.

Preceding her in death where her parents, her brothers: Bobby, Benjamin, James, and sister-in-law Miriam.

Surviving are her brother: Chuck (Rachel) Noetzel; her sister-in-law: Barbara Noetzel; her nieces and nephews: Tammy, James Jr, Kim, Phillip, Mary, Robert, and Christina; her extended families: Joan Hamar and family (Debra, Julie, and Doug), the Danison family (Randy, Angela, Sydney, Eli, and Paige), Annelise Jensen and family, and Joanne Moros; along with numerous cousins and friends. A special thanks for the care from Hospice and Stacy.

A celebration of her life will be held in late spring/early summer at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Soren Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to the Omega House, 2211 Maureen Lane, Houghton, MI 49930
