Obituary of Ronald Kommes MR FredaRonald Kommes, 56, a resident of Freda passed away Wednesday morning January 8, 2014, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain where he had been a patient for the past two months.He was born on March 5, 1957, in Hancock, a son of the late Alfred and Gertrude (DeForge) Kommes. Ron was raised in Toivola and graduated from Jeffers High School with the class of 1975.Mr. Kommes was a veteran having served with the United States Navy.Ron returned to Toivola was employed at the Mosquito Inn.On August 20, 1994, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Manninen. The couple had resided in Sturgeon Bay, WI, where Ron had worked for the Stone Harbor resort as a maintenance man. They returned to the Copper Country to make their home most recently in Freda. Locally Ron had worked as a handyman, also was employed with Shopko, and currently was working with the Public Safety Department for Finlandia University.Mr. Kommes was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton. Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed bowling and play pool in various leagues. A memorial service for Ron will be held 2 pm Monday January 13, 2014, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Houghton with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.
