Obituary of Rose Laitinen RIPLEY - Rose I. Laitinen, 85, a long time resident of North Royce Road, Ripley, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock. She was a resident patient there since November 2001. Rose was born February 14, 1923, in Highway Location, a daughter of the late John and Bessie Nuranen. On December 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Albert J. Laitinen who passed away April 7, 2003. Rose worked many years at Suomi College and Vollwerths and was a member of the Eagles and Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to cook and garden and always greeted her family and friends with a warm pleasant smile. Surviving are one daughter Judy (Edward) English of Burke, VA; one son John Laitinen of Ripley; four sisters, Gloria Jerabek, Ruth Kangas, Sarah Wilcox, and Sandy Ruscio; two brothers Bert Nuranen and Dave Nuranen; five grandchildren, Edward (Laura) English, Karen English, Susan (Michael) Leber, Brad (Jill) Laitinen, and Kim (Jim) Bess; eight great-grandchildren, two step great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock where the Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion Auxiliary will hold a service at 6 pm, and for one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
