Rosemary Claire Manderfield, age
72, longtime resident of Houghton, Michigan
passed away Wednesday September 21, 2022,
shortly after being admitted to U.P-Health
Portage, in Hancock.
One of six daughters and family of 12 children,
Rosemary was born March 20, 1950 at St.
Joseph Hospital in Hancock to Florence (Kratt)
and Matthias N. Manderfield Sr, and raised on
the Manderfield farm in Atlantic Mine.
Rosemary attended the St. Ignatius Loyola
Catholic School and was graduate of Houghton
High School class of 1968.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her son
Paris, her parents, and two brothers: Victor and
Peter, and a sister Joan (Manderfield) Moore.
Rosemary is survived her grandson and four
brothers: Matt Manderfield of Atlantic Mine,
James Manderfield of Snake River Hill, Chassell,
David (Kathy) of Houghton, Michael (Cynthia)
Manderfield of Atlantic Mine. And her sisters;
Judy (Fred) Coxen of Oxford, Michigan. Paula
(David Gilstrap) Manderfield of Lansing,
Michigan, Cecilia (Gary) Bakkila of Chassell,
Susan (Michael) Johnson of Painesdale, and
sister-in-law, Leslie (Peter) Manderfield of
Houghton. Further, survived by numerous
darling nieces and handsome nephews, and
cousins. Along, with her best friend and
partner, Michael Yoki of Houghton.
After high school, Rosemary moved to Lansing
where she attended Michigan State University
to study psychology. After several years in
Lansing, she headed west and lived in the areas
of Santa Barbara, California and Spoke Cane,
Washington, where her son Paris was born.
Eventually, returned to the Copper Country
with her son.
Rose was a beautiful person who loved life, in
her younger years she enjoyed downhill skiing,
‘skateboarding’ down M-26, swimming across
the Portage Canal. Sharing a pet cow with her
brother Mike.
Throughout Rosie’s travels, she never lost
appreciation for the arts, always talked about
achieving as an artist. Rose, enjoyed charcoal
drawings, acrylic oil painting and pottery. In
addition to studying at Michigan State, Rose,
studied at Santa Barbara Community College
and eventually, earned an associate’s degree of
graphic arts from Suomi College in April, 1983.
The family wishes to acknowledge Copper
Country Mental Health adult care services and
thank all those who provided valuable services
and care to Rose over the years.
Intermittent will be in the Forrest Hill
Cemetery, with a graveside service Thursday
September 29 th at 10:00 a.m. The Memorial
Chapel Funeral and Cremation Service are
assisting the family.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy,
donations in Rose’s name can be made to the
Copper Country Community Art Center in
Hancock, Humane Society or any other charity
of choice.
