Obituary of Roy Raisanen Hancock Roy A. Raisanen, 87, a former resident of Sampson St., Hancock, passed away Monday afternoon August 20, 2007, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past two years. He was born on May 12, 1920, in Houghton, a son of the late John and Elin (Lexon) Raisanen. As a child he attended the Redridge Schools. Mr. Raisanen was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II. On December 21, 1940, he was united in marriage to the former Alice Kuru. Roy had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Houghton County Road Commission for 39 years retiring in 1988. Mr. Raisanen was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock. Roy enjoyed spending time fishing and working with wood. Preceding him in death were 3 brothers: George, Hubert, and Ed, 4 Sisters: Helen, Violet, Ann and Liz. Surviving are: His Wife Alice of Hancock His Children: Donald (Sandy) Raisanen of Brainerd, MN Patricia Geerlings of Hancock 3 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, His Sister: Verna (Gabriel) Masini of Hancock Several nieces, nephews, and cousins A memorial service for Roy will be held 11 a.m. Saturday August 25, 2007, in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be held in the Oskar Cemetery. Where Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock will hold military rites. Roy's family will greet friends and family on Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
