Obituary of Rudolph Larson Portage TownshipRudolph L. Larson, 92, a former resident of Portage Township, passed away Monday evening March 25, 2013, at the Cypress Manor Nursing Home in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past four years.He was born on December 9, 1920, in Onnela, a son of the late Andrew and Lillian (Lampinen) Larson. He attended the Onnela School. Rudy worked for various lumber camps where he operated a bulldozer to open roads. He had also had done private bulldozing work for himself.In 1952, he purchased the family potato farm which he operated until 1982 when he retired and sold the farm to his son.On June 23, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Bertha Aho and the couple spent 64 years together and raised seven children together. They had resided in Liminga, Onnela, Chassell and since 1983 made their home in Portage Township. On August 9, 2009, Bertha preceded Rudy in death.Mr. Larson was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Rudy was active with the local Farm Bureau. He was an avid cross country skier in the winter being able to ski across the UP one winter with his good friend. In the summer, he enjoyed riding his bike, pedaling to the Hill Top for a cup of coffee on many occasions.Preceding him in death were his wife Bertha, his grandson Darin Larson, his great grandson Trevor Tervo, his sisters; Clara Waara and Ellen Moyryla.Surviving are: His children: Donald (Donna) Larson of HoughtonDavid (Jean) Larson of MilfordArthur (Mary) Larson of Portage TownshipChristine (James) Tervo of ChassellLois (Robert) Kunnttila of HoughtonMichael (Diane) Larson of ChassellKenneth (Cheryl) Larson of Chassell46 grandchildren and 94 great grandchildrenHis brother: Raymond (Sylvia) Larson of HoughtonNumerous nieces, nephews, and cousinsFuneral services for Rudy will be held 10 am Friday March 29, 2013, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with James Randell to officiate.
