Obituary of Rudolph Manninen Dodgeville Rudolph "Rudy" Manninen, 83, a resident of Dodgeville, passed away Tuesday morning, Oct, 7, 2003, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a patient for the past 3 weeks. He was born on July 7, 1920, in Dodgeville, a son of the late John A. and Gustava (Karlela) Manninen, and attended the local schools. He was employed as a Licensed Plaster in Explosives in Alaska, as a Licensed Building Contractor, and a Certified Construction Welder. For a number of years he was operator of Manninen Welding until illness forced his retirement. On July 21, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Virgina I. Telin. He was a veteran of W.W. II having served with the United States Marine Corp., where he was wounded in Iwo Jima. Rudy was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, and the Soumi Kerho Circle of the church. He also was a life member of D.A.V. Chapter #115, where he served as past Commander. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post #6507 of Chassell, a life member of the Marine Corp. League-Keweenaw Detachment #1016,a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and a member of the Painesdale Mine & Shaft Inc. Rudy also coached Junior Hockey, Little Leauge Baseball and played in the local hardball leauge. He was preceded in death by 1 Daughter: Karla Jean, his parent; 2 Brothers; and 1 Sister. Surviving are: his wife, Virgina 2 Sons: Michael (Maj-Ra) Manninen of Dodgeville Kevin Manninen of Jyvaskylla, Finland 2 Daughters: Diana (Ernest) Alatalo of Superior Location Denise (William) Hendrickson of Atlantic Mine 10 Grandchidlren 1 Great Grand Daughter 1 Sister: Celia Kotila of Livonia 3 Brothers: Reino a resident patient at Stillwaters Community Elders Home in Calumet Wallace "Copper" Manninen of Dodgeville Donald Manninen of Spring Hill, Florida numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins Funeral services will be held Friday Oct. 10, 2003, at 11 A.M. in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial to be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M. on Thursday in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home where a joint military service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Military Graveside services will be held at the cemetery also on Friday. Friends may also call at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock, from 10 A.M. until time of services at the church on Friday.
