Obituary of Rudolph Mattson Arnheim Rudolph "Rudy" W. Mattson, 77, a resident of Arnheim, passed away Wednesday morning February 20, 2013, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past three years. He was born on August 11, 1935, in Arnheim, a son of the late Wilho and Olga (Ruotsie) Mattson. As a child, Rudy attended the Keweenaw Bay School. Mr. Mattson was a veteran having served with the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. Rudolph had been employed with a fish house in Hancock, Standard Service in Chassell, Mineral Recovery in Painesdale, Hocking Contracting of South Range, before retiring from the Baraga County Road Commission. On January 16, 1959, he was united in marriage to the former Rose Marie Heilig. Rudy loved to ride his motorcycle, owning one since the age of 15, when he built his first one. He was a handy man that could build or fix anything, leaving the area in a better condition than when he started. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Preceding him in death were his infant daughter and his parents. Surviving are: His wife Rose Marie Mattson of Arnheim HIs sisters-in-law: Gudrun Holstein of Arnheim Brigitte Harris of Lawton, Oklahoma Brunhilde Woolsey of Germany His brothers-in law: Wilfried (Ursula) Heilig of Germany Robert Hickman of Columbus, OH His four legged friends Several nieces, nephews, and cousins As requested, by Rudy a private graveside service will be held later this spring in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. Rudolph's family would like to thank staff and nurses from Woodland Haven and the second floor both of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, for the care given to Rudy.
