Ruth Elaine Johnson

Ruth Elaine Johnson, born in Liminga, Michigan, went to be with the Lord surrounded by loved

ones at age 95 on December 20 th , 2024. Ruth was the eldest daughter to Victor and Helen

(Kauppila) Koskela. She was a 1947 graduate of Houghton High School.

Ruth was a member of the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church and a member of the Staton

Senior Citizens. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and a devoted wife, mother,

grandmother, aunt and friend to many.

Ruth was married to James A. Johnson for 64 years. They resided in Alberta, MI for 30 years,

after which they retired to their home in the Houghton Canal area, MI. She is survived by her

children: Jane (Gordon) Sunnarborg, Christine (William) Sandstrom, Colleen Wonch, Thomas

Johnson, and Lori (William) Smith.

Ruth is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, as well as her siblings:

Betty Ann (Jack) Kolehmainen, William (Gail) Koskela, Bonnie (David) Isola, and Terry (Julie)

Koskela as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents, as well as her siblings: Dennis

Koskela, Roy (Elvira) Koskela, Darlene (Kenneth) Heikka, Dorothy (Robert) Sten, and Robert

(Joyce) Koskela.

Please join us for a service officiated by Ken Storm, on Friday, January 3 rd , 2025, at 1pm with

visitation to be held at 12pm, prior to the service at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church,

17602 N Lake Ave Chassell, MI 49916.
