Chassell

Ruth H. Landen, 96, a former resident of Chassell passed away Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Mission Point of Hancock where she had been a resident patient.

She was born on October 3, 1927, in Chassell, MI, a daughter of the late John and Kaisa (Isovita) Kivari. Ruth was a graduate of the Chassell High School. Ruth then moved to the Detroit area where she met her future husband. On April 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Ernest Landen. The couple has resided in the Detroit area and Painesdale before making their home in Chassell. On November 10, 2004, Ernest preceded Ruth in Death.

Mrs. Landen had worked locally as a nurse's Aide. She then went back to school later in life and received her Nursing degree from Gogebic Community College. Ruth then worked as a nurse for the Houghton County Medical Facility for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. She was a gifted artist drawing and painting, she also enjoyed working in her flower garden and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband Ernest, her parents and her 9 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are: Her daughter Deborah (David) Butkovich of Chassell & Her son: Dwight (Mary) Landen of El Paso, TX; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A funeral service for Ruth will be held 1:00 pm Friday, October 4, 2024, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Mark Halonen to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.

Friends may call on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel from 6 to 8 pm and on Friday from 12 noon until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
