Ruth Lehto (Crawford)

Obituary of Ruth Lehto Chassell Ruth Lehto, age 92, formerly a resident of Chassell, MI, passed away on November 22 at the Claremont Rehabilitation and Living Center in Buffalo Grove, Illinois, where she had resided for the past six years. She was born on April 18, 1920 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Floyd and Marion Crawford. Ruth married Waino Lehto on October 8th, 1943. They lived in the Detroit area for a short time after he completed his World War II service before moving permanently to Waino's hometown of Chassell. Ruth was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars for over 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Waino W. Lehto, her parents, and her brothers Howard Crawford and Floyd Crawford, Jr., as well as sisters- and brothers-in-law Vincent and Irene Alain, Jack and Elmi Filkins, Henry and Erma Kaspala and Albertine Crawford. Ruth is survived by her daughters Donna (Chris) Griffith of Ferndale, MI, Marion (Bill) Moskal of Neenah, WI, and Gwen Nielsen of Buffalo Grove, IL, as well as sister-in-law Zelma Crawford, and several nieces and nephews from the Crawford, Alain, Filkins and Kaspala families. Visitation will be held at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell on Sunday, December 2nd from 5:00 to 7:30 pm. Services for Ruth will take place at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell on Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 am. Friends may also call on Monday morning from 10 am until time of services at the church where the Post #6507 VFW of Chassell Auxiliary will hold honors at 10:30 am. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church or the Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly program in Hancock, MI, in memory of Ruth.
