Obituary of Ruth Liljequist Hancock Ruth Jacobson Liljequist, 83, a resident of Cooper Avenue, Hancock, passed away early Tuesday morning, Feb. 3, 2004, at her home following a lengthy illness. The former Ruth Jacobson was born on November 26, 1920, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Erick and Mathilda (Bach) Jacobson. She was a graduate of the Hancock High School, with the Class of 1939, and graduated from the former Suomi College (Finlandia Univestiy) in 1940. She later resided in the Buffalo area, Chicago area, and then in Kenmore, New York. She then moved to West Virginia where she resided first in Sistersville, then St. Albans, and Charleston, before returning to the Copper Country in 1978, to make her home in the Hancock area. Ruth's career began as a secretary at Union Carbide and a librarian in West Virginia. On September 12, 1942, she was united in marriage to Lloyd E. Liljequist by the late Rev. John Simonson at Salem Lutheran Church in Hancock. She was a very active member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, where she was a former member of the Council and Financial Secretary. She also did library work at the church. Preceding her in death was a daughter, Connie in 1951. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 2 Sisters; and 7 Brothers. Surviving are: her devoted husband, Lloyd of 61 years. 1 daughter: Mrs. Laura (David) Ayers of Danville, VA. 1 son: Gary (Mary)Liljequist of Raleigh, North Carolina numerous nieces & nephews Memorial services will be held Friday, February 6, 2004, at 11 A.M. in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock is serving the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials be given to the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
