Obituary of Shirley Mae Ciabattari Houghton Shirley M. (William) Ciabattari, 70, a former resident of Hancock and presently of the Heritage Manor in Houghton passed away Tuesday August 16, 2011, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock following a lengthy illness. She was born on October 18, 1940, in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late John and Mae Uutala. As a child, she moved with her family to Dollar Bay where she graduated from the Dollar Bay Schools and then attended Soumi College (Finlandia University). Shirley had worked for Cypress Manor Nursing Home, Roy's Insurance Company, C & H Mining Company, and the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, from which she retired. On April 14, 1962, she was united in marriage to William Ciabattari. Mrs. Ciabattari was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock and enjoyed baking, knitting and walking. Preceding her in death were her parents and her son James Ciabattari Surviving are: Her husband: William Ciabattari of Houghton Her daughter: Lisa Hyde of Marquette Her granddaughter: Allison Hyde of Marquette Her brother: Ron (Denise) Uutala of Green Bay, WI Her close friend: Sharon Koski of Hancock Several nieces, nephew, and cousins A private funeral service for Shirley will be held at a later date at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Licensed Lay Minister Clay Hilman to officiate.
