Shirley Mae Niemi

Shirley Niemi formerly of Douglas House Apts and Dodgeville, passed away on 1/06/25 at the age of 86 years old.

She was born in May of 1938 in Trout Creek. She was the daughter of Frank & Elizabeth (Tiura) Aho. She spent early days in Trout Creek, Greenland & Trimountain.

Shirley graduated from Jeffers Highschool. She worked at Woolworths, Snyder Drugs & Shopko as a cashier. She retired in 2013.

She married William Niemi of Hurontown in August of 1959. He preceded her in death in May of 1999.

Also, her parents, brothers (John & Francis) and two infant sisters (Sally & Verna) preceded her in death.

Shirley enjoyed walking, making crafts, visiting family & friends and playing cards.

Survived is a son; David (Cherie) Niemi of Dodgeville, a daughter; Sharon (Paul) Kochan of KS, two granddaughters: Ashley (Cody) Stopel of Dodgeville & Lisa Niemi of TX; two grandsons: Noah & Jonah Kochan of KS; one great granddaughter Savannah James of TX; one brother Carl (Paulette) Aho of White Pine; five sisters: Arlene Larson of Allegan, Jane Putkela of Delton, Dolores (Bill) Davis of Plainwell, Dorothy Kinnunen of Baraga and Evelyn McClung of Ontonagon; several nieces & nephews, cousins and very special friends Cheryl Mattson & family.

A memorial service for Shirley will be held 1:00 pm Monday June 2, 2025 at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service - Hancock Chapel with Rev. Brahm Semmler - Smith to officiate.  Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton at a later time.
