Obituary of Sidney Lynn Collins Dollar Bay Sidney Lynn Collins, 63, a resident of East Grosse Pointe Shores, passed away on August 10, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 23, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late Max and Ethel Collins. Sid served in the U.S. Army after high school. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for area contractors and was a member of Operating Engineers Local #324. He was then employed with the Houghton County Sheriff's Department as a deputy for 26 years until his retirement in 2005. In 1966, Sid was united in marriage to Linda Dormanen of Wayne, Michigan. Surviving are his wife, Linda; his four children- Cara (Kenneth) Leivdal of Houghton; Rod (Renee) of Calumet; Amy (Patrick) Tanninen of Battle Ground, WA; and Ryan (Andrea) of Marengo, WI; his grandchildren- Amber, Shane and Liana Leivdal; Tori, Jada, Rita, Sam and Jax Tanninen; and Brandon, Ned, Karsen, Ronny, and Jonah Collins; his brothers Max Collins of West Jordan, Utah; and half-brother Carl Barr of Livonia. Preceding him in death were his mother, father, and two brothers, Brett and Bill. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday August 13, 2008, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Ronald Jouppe to officiate. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock is assisting the family with arrangements.
