Sophie Evelyn Perreault, 85, of Houghton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, August 13, 2023 at her daughter’s home in Rhodes, Michigan. 

Evelyn was born at home, August 26, 1937 in Oskar; the daughter of Thomas Arnold and Edna Marie (Kukkonen) Lantto; the granddaughter of Jalmar and Hilda Lantto, Evert and Anna Kukkonen.

She married her first husband, William Edward Dorvinen in 1955.  She and Bill had 11 children together (seven sons and four daughters):  Beverly, Timothy, Edward, Gregory, Dale, Dawna, Daniel, Diana, Delphine, Samuel and David.

Evelyn married Joseph Perreault in 1976.  He brought with him 3 more children:  Andrew, Marian and Jeffrey.

Evelyn had an open door and welcomed many family and friends.  She liked country music, her husband Joe was a local musician.  She also enjoyed knitting and traveled with her knitting basket making dish clothes, mittens and more.  Evelyn was always willing to help others; sharing food, taking in people who needed a home, giving rides to family and friends.  Her beloved pet, Tillie, stayed by her side for many years.  She attended Maranatha Free Lutheran Church in Chassell, Michigan and was a member of Stanton Seniors.  She loved her family and spent time with them whenever she could.  Evelyn worked for several years as a certified nursing assistant and then as an activities assistant for Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; in-laws; husbands:  William Dorvinen and Joseph Perreault;  her sons, Timothy, Gregory and Samuel; grandsons: Jason Dorvinen, Levi Brezee and Caleb Dorvinen; siblings:  Robert, Dorothy, Mary Ann, James, Wesley Lantto and Shirley Kommes; sisters-in-law:  Christine Lantto, Donna Lantto and Teresa Lantto.

Evelyn is survived by her children:  Beverly (Neal) Martindale of Redford, Michigan; Edward (Micki) Dorvinen of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; Dale Dorvinen of Janesville, Wisconsin; Dawna (Harold) Behrendt of Houghton, Michigan; Daniel Dorvinen of Houghton, Michigan; Diana (Dale) Eddy of Rhodes, Michigan; Delphine (Shane) Brezee of Chelsea, Michigan; David Dorvinen (Andrea Tuthill) of Hancock, Michigan; Andrew (Lora) Perreault of Blasdell, New York; Marian (Bob) Kleibusch of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Jeffrey Perreault of Calumet, Michigan.  Her 27 grandchildren:  Rachel Martindale, Zachary Martindale, Jonathan (Rachel) Martindale, Sara Dorvinen, Matthew (Emma) Dorvinen, Nichole (Thomas) Sutherland, Jared (Rebecca) Dorvinen, Emily (Sevin) Dennis, James (Jessica) Eddy, Anna (Alex) Martinson, Thomas Eddy, Samuel Eddy, Seth Brezee, Stephanie Dorvinen (Donald DeForge II), Esaias (Katherine) Dorvinen, Hannah Dorvinen, Abigail Lantto, Julia Smith, Jessica Smith, Larissa Perreault, Loren Perreault, Damian Perreault, Joe Stusse, Andrew Kleibusch, Sadie Kleibusch, Bobbie Kleibusch III; 22 great-grand children; Siblings: Walter (Lucille) Lantto, John (Donna) Lantto, Gerald Lantto, Gloria (Bill) Wakeham and Thomas Lantto; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at Oskar Cemetery on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Caleb Maunu officiating.
A luncheon and fellowship will follow the burial at the Stanton Township Fire Hall.
