Obituary of Steven Albert Haapapuro Portage Township Steven A. Haapapuro, 44, a resident of Portage Township, suddenly passed away Sunday morning January 25, 2009, at home following a short illness. He was born on May 18, 1964, in Hancock a son of Bruce and Carol (Perrault) Haapapuro. As a child, he moved to Portage Township with his family and has resided there since that time. Steve was a graduate of the Houghton High School and attended Northern Michigan University. Mr. Haapapuro had worked for Superior Paving, Copper Country Mental Health as a counselor and for the K.B.I.C. New Day Treatment Center as a councelor. Steven enjoyed playing basketball and football as a young man and more recently he enjoyed the outdoors hunting and fishing. He also was a gifted guitar player and singer.. Surviving are: His parents: Bruce and Carol Haapapuro of Portage Township His brothers: Brian (Marilyn) Haapapuro of Atlantic Mine Kevin D. Haapapuro of Hancock Michael Haapapuro of Portage Township His nieces and nephews: Kimberly Grima, Jacob Haapapuro, Jeffery Haapapuro, Tara Haapapuro, Alex Haapapuro, Tesa Haapapuro, and Brittney Haapapuro. He will be sadly missed by his nephew Kevin S. Haapapuro His grand nieces: Tori and Abbi Numerous aunts, uncles & cousins A memorial service for Steven will be held 11 am Saturday January 31, 2009, at Hope Fellowship Church of Houghton with Rev. Paul Marin to officiate. Friends may call on Saturday January 31, 2009, from 10:30 am until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Hope Fellowship Church or the charity of one's choice in memory of Steven Haapapuro.
