Obituary of Sylvia Ylitalo Hancock Sylvia Ylitalo, a resident of Hancock passed away on Friday July 16, 2010. She was born on December 2, 1926 in Hancock, daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Sakkinen ) Leinonen. She was a graduate of Hancock High School with the class of 1944. On September 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Carl Ylitalo. Together the couple resided in Hancock except for a short time in Milwaukee. Sylvia and her husband owned and operated Northern Auto in Hancock for 22 years. After retiring in 1976, their son took over ownership of the business. Mrs. Ylitalo was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was involved with the Quilters of the church and the Soumi Kerho of the Church. She also enjoyed boating and fishing with her husband, family & friends. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Preceding her in death were her husband , her parents and her brothers Hemmi, Jacob, Charles, Henry, and Frank and her sisters Lyydi, Anna, Lempi, and Hilma. Surviving are her: Children John (Peggy) Ylitalo of Hancock Canal Susan (Allen) Stone of Erie, CO. Grandchildren: Mary Sue (Joe) Shanle of Blue Hill, NE John (Becky) Ylitalo Jr. of Boston Location Kelly Ylitalo of Hancock Canal Andrew (Arricka) Stone of Westminster, CO Eric Stone of Lafayette, CO Great grandchildren: Conner Ylitalo and Niko Stone One niece Marie Stratton of Gaylord and her children, one nephew Walter Pelto of Detroit and his children and one cousin Anni Tiainen in Lahti, Finland. Funeral services for Sylvia will be held 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday July 21st at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the church.
