Obituary of Veikko Matt Pelto Houghton Veikko M. "Dusty" Pelto, 89, a resident of Houghton, passed away Wednesday May 23, 2007, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient past for the past ten years. He was born on January 15, 1918, in Dodgeville, a son of the late Herman and Mary Pelto. As a child he attended the Isle Royale School and Houghton schools. He later resided in Superior Location and Houghton for over 50 years before becoming a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility. Mr. Pelto was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II. On November 5, 1945, he was united in marriage to the former Elna Hakala and she preceded him in death on September 5, 1993. Veikko was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Mr. Pelto had worked as a welder for Copper Range. Preceding Veikko in death was his wife, 1 son, his parents, 4 sisters, and 5 brothers. Surviving are: 1 Daughter: Lorraine (Robert) Klemm of Colgate, WI 3 Sons: Jack Pelto of Houghton Clyde (Janette) Pelto of Tucson, AZ Alan (Kathleen) Pelto of Easton, PA 5 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild 2 Brothers: Benny (Dorothy) Pelto of Detroit, MI Carlo (Marilyn) Pelto of Kalamazoo, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Veikko will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday May 29, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Susan Odegard to officiate. Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday May 29, 2007, from 10 a.m. until time of services in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.
