Obituary of Verna Johnson HoughtonVerna D. Johnson, 83, a resident of Houghton passed away Saturday October 1, 2011, at the Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week.She was born on January 15, 1928, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Eino and Hilda (Anderson) Riutta. Verna was raised in Hancock and graduated from the Houghton High School.On November 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to Alvin Johnson and the couple had made their home on Green Acres Rd., Houghton, since that time. Alvin preceded Verna in death on November 19, 1982.Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock.Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her sister Mildred Huhta and her brothers; Wilbert, Raymond, Robert, Richard, and Russell.Surviving are: Her son: Gary (Sally) Johnson of Eau Clarie, WI Her daughters: Christine (Nils) Ruonavaara of Atlantic MineSharon (Paul) Jukkala of HoughtonJudith Johnson of HoughtonSandra (Frank) Beauchamp of DodgevilleGail (Martin) Raffaelli of DodgevilleCarolyn (Joseph) Arens of Atlantic MineMary (Karry) Datto of Atlantic MineNumerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great grandsonHer sisters: Lillian Hermanson Esther (Rick) HietalaAlyce (Ron) Jestila Violet Tuomi Her sister-in-law: Adele MastersNumerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friendsFuneral services for Verna will be held 11 am Wednesday October 5, 2011, at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Clarence Marttila to officiate.
