Obituary of Vieno Komula Chassell Vieno Komula, 77, a resident of Chassell passed away Sunday February 20, 2011, at the Marquette General Hospital where she had been a patient for the past 10 days following a lengthy illness. She was born on December 18, 1933, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Jacob and Hannah (Heikkinen) Komula. Vieno graduated from the Chassell Schools with the class of 1951. She also attended Soumi College, Michigan Technological University before graduating from Northern Michigan University with a degree in teaching. Mrs. Komula had worked as a secretary for the Department of Social Services in Hancock for a few years before attending Northern Michigan University. She had then worked for the Hancock Public Schools as a teacher retiring from the Special Education Department. Vieno was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. She enjoyed helping people and attending her nieces, and nephews sporting events. Preceding her in death were her parents, her infant sister Anna, and her brothers; Carl, Wilho, John and Paul. Surviving are: Her sister: Linda Givens of Hancock Her sister-in-law: Eva Komula of Mohawk Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Vieno will be held 2 pm Thursday February 24, 2011, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ron Strobel to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday February 23, 2011, from 4 to 8 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and from 1pm time of services Thursday at the Church.
