Obituary of Viola L. Poyhonen Hancock Viola L. Poyhonen, 91, a former resident of Elevation St., Hancock, passed away Saturday morning February 2, 2008, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past 2 and a half years. She was born on December 18, 1916, in Hancock a daughter of the late Oscar and Wilhelmina (Tapani) Poyhonen. Viola graduated from Hancock High School with the class of 1934 and then attended Soumi College. She had worked for Dover Music House as a bookkeeper and also worked for and retired from the Payroll Department at Michigan Technological University. Viola was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Preceding her in death where her parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. Surviving are: Her sisters and brother: Elvie Abramson a resident of the Bluffs Senior Living Community of Houghton Ina Nordstrom of Hancock Erma Kilpela of Hancock Mildred (Edsel) Johnson of Hancock Martha Poyhonen of Hancock Lillian Kilpela of Hancock Ruth (Ardell) Jurmu of Hancock Ray (Dorothy) Poyhonen of Hancock 55 nieces & nephews Numerous great nieces and great nephews 2 cousins Funeral services for Viola will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday February 5, 2008, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday February 4, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
