Obituary of Virginia May Soumis Chassell Virginia M. Soumis, 86, a longtime resident of Chassell passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 27, 2017, at Bayside Village in LAnse. Virginia was born on July 14, 1931, in Gay, MI, the daughter of the late Leonard and Hilma (Lasanen) Hamina. She was a 1949 graduate of the Chassell High School. On August 25, 1951, she was united in marriage to Walter Soumis at St. Annes Catholic Church in Chassell. Virginia and Walter operated the Soumis Greenhouse in Chassell from 1959-1995. Virginia was a wonderful mother. She was known for her delicious cooking and baking and opened her home to many over the years. Preceding her in death were her parents and a grandson, Gino Zielinski. She is survived by her husband Walter two sons: Pierre (Nancy) Soumis of Gwinn, MI Andre (Gayle) Soumis of Chassell, MI Five daughters: Ann Elliott of Cedar Hill, TX Sandra (Tim) Zielinski of Bella Vista, AR Jane (Brian) Waters of Chassell, MI Gina (Chris) Sayen of Chassell, MI Beth (Tim) Theut of Memphis, TN 12 grandchildren: Roland, Amanda, Marty, Tony, Chad, Kelli, Ashley, Ginger, McCall, Heather, Olivia and Dustin and 21 great grandchildren Her six sisters: Agnes Pyykkonen of Detroit Elaine Weisbach of San Diego, CA Victoria (Bill) Reynolds of Alpena, MI Gloria Karpinen of Bellaire, MI Helen Swisher of Jacksonville, FL Arlene (Bill) Ensley of Trevose, PA A memorial service for Virginia will be held at a later time.
