Obituary of Walter Rueben Maki Hancock Walter R. Maki, 87, passed away Saturday morning at his home in Hancock with his wife and family by his side. He was born February 9. 1927, in Arcadian Location, a son of the late August and Hilja (Kemppainen) Maki. Walter graduated from the Dollar Bay High School and Suomi College. Mr. Maki was a veteran having served with the United States Army. In 1987, he retired from General Motors where he had worked as an accountant. On September 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Heinonen of Liminga. Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers, George, Oliver, Arthur & Wesley and his sisters Martha Hakala and Viola Hakala. Surviving are: His wife Ruth of Hancock His children: Don (Shirley) Maki of Howell, MI Pauline (Ken) Wesa of South Lyon, MI Carol (Erwin) Massie of Atlantic Mine, MI Elaine (Paul) Sturos of Laurium, MI Sue (Reid) Daavettila of Brighton, MI Bob (Tonya) Maki of Howell, MI Kathleen (Alan) Harmon of South Lyon, MI 50 grandchildren & 103 great grandchildren His sister-in-laws: Millie Maki, Pauline Heinonen & Lana Heinonen Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral Services for Walter will be held 11 am Tuesday December 16, 2014, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Monday December 15, 2014, from 4 to 8 pm and on Tuesday from 10 am until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
