Obituary of Wanda Jean Wray Houghton Wanda J. (Kent) Wray, 61, a resident of Houghton passed away at home early Tuesday morning September 27, 2005, following a lengthy illness. She was born in San Antonio, TX, on March 16, 1944, a daughter of the late John H. and Dorothy (Brown) Mason. Wanda was a graduate of the Lakeview High School of San Angelo, TX and received a B.A. degree from Angelo State University. Mrs. Wray has resided in San Angelo, TX; Dayton, OH; San Antonio, TX; College Station, TX; Lubbock, TX; Athens, OH; and for the last 5 years has made her home in Houghton, MI. While residing in San Antonio, Wanda attended Law School at St. Mary University where she received a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Mrs. Wray was a very successful Criminal Defense Lawyer practicing in Bryan, TX, and Lubbock, TX, where she defended 8 capital murder cases. While living in Dayton, OH, she became the first woman salesperson for Volkswagen of America and frequently was the monthly top sale's person. On September 9, 1972 she was united in marriage to Warren K. Wray. Wanda was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton, and The American and Texas Bar Associations. Mrs. Wray had many interests in her free time such as flower gardening, sailing, fast sports cars, she was a voracious reader, enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, and following the Dallas Cowboy's football team. Surviving are: Her husband: Warren Kent Wray of Houghton A celebration of Wanda's life will be held on Monday October 3, 2005, at 11 A.M. in Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton with Rev. Tom Anderson to officiate. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 A.M. until time of services. The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock has been assisting the family with the arrangements. For those who wish, the family suggests that memorial may be given the American Lung Association for Emphysema research in Wanda Wray's memory.
