Obituary of Wesley Lantto Houghton Canal Wesley E. "Smiley" Lantto, 76, a former resident of the Houghton Canal and presently of the Heritage Manor in Houghton, passed away Tuesday evening January 18, 2011, at his home following a short illness. Wesley was born on September 27, 1934 in the Houghton Canal District a son of the late Arnold and Edna (Kukkonen) Lantto. He attended the Redridge School. On June 6, 1966 he was united in marriage to Christine Penrose in Ishpeming, and she preceded him in death on October 7, 1998. Mr. Lantto worked for George Hocking Construction and Moyle Construction as a heavy equipment operator for 13 years and last for Walmart for 5 years retiring in 2007. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife, a brother - James and a special friend Grace Mattson. Surviving are his children, Michael and his fianc? Melissa of Houghton; Cynthia (Andrew) Ellingson of Houghton Canal District; and Connie Lantto of Laurium; 4 brothers - Walter (Lucy) of Farmington Hills; John (Donna) of Atlantic Mine; Gerald (Donna) of Trimountain; and Tom (Terri) of Painesdale; 3 Sisters - Shirley (Lauren) Kommes of South Range; Evelyn (Joseph) Perault of Houghton Canal; Gloria (Bill) Wakeham of Atlatnic Mine; 6 grandchildren - Amanda, Ronald, Tyler, Ashley, Brittany and Jordan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation a private family memorial service will be held in the spring.
