Obituary of Wilbert Myre Hancock Wilbert R. Myre, 95, a former resident of Lakeview Manor in Hancock passed away Thursday September 25, 2014, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where he had been a resident patient for the past three years.He was on January 7, 1919, in Houghton a son of the late Wilbert A. and Marie (Thibeau) Myre. Wilbert was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1937.He then moved to the Detroit area and attended Hemphile Diesel School before working at the Fleetwood Body Plant.Mr. Myre was drafted into the United States Army, where he served as a medic during World War II. He was stationed in the Galapagos Islands, Panama and Saipan.He attended the Michigan College of Mining and Technology before working for Gundlach Construction for ten years. He then worked for the Institute of Mineral Research at Michigan Technological University as a Laboratory Technician retiring in 1980.In 1943, he was united in marriage to the former Emerald Brown. The couple resided in Painesdale, Hancock and Houghton. Emerald preceded him in death in 1992.Mr. Myre was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock and Alfred Erickson Post #186 American Legion of Hancock. He enjoyed working with his HO Train sets and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Wilbert believed he should try to continue to learn new things each day and passed that down to his children and grandchildren.Preceding him in death were his wife, his daughter Juliana, his parents and his brother Daniel.Surviving are; His children:Barbara (Jim) Noetzel of Houghton Patricia Schmidt of Round Rock, TXHis grandchildren:Lt. Mary (Chuck) ChristensenSheri (Nathan) deGuiaPhillip HolmbladeLora HolmbladeHis great grandchildren:Alexandra, Jimmy, Charlie and JuiletteA Mass of Christian Burial for Wilbert will be held at 11 am Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock with Rev. Fr. William Ssozi to celebrate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton where Alfred Erickson Post#186 American Legion of Hancock will hold Military Honors. Friends may call on Tuesday September 30, 2014, from 9:30-10:30 in the Mt. Carmel Room at the Church of the Resurrection.In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to the Church of the Resurrection in memory of Wilbert R.
