Obituary of Wilho M. Saari Hancock Wilho M. Saari, 91, a resident of Hancock St., Hancock, passed away Friday December 21, 2007, at the Portage Hospital emergency department. He was born on June 23, 1916, in Ripley, a son of the late Matti and Hilda (Stein) Saari. Bill was raised in Ripley and in the 1940's moved to Hancock where he had resided until his death. He attended and graduated from the Houghton High School and also was a business graduate of Suomi College. Mr. Saari was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II. Bill had worked for John and Sophie Smith at Smith's Super Service as a parts manager and bookkeeper. Preceding him in death were his parents and he brothers, Walfred & Arvid ad sisters Ida Fitzpatrick, and Saima Wiitanen. Surviving are: His nephews and niece: David (Gladys) Wiitanen of Hancock Barbara (Benjamin) Holmes of Kent, WA Richard (Chris) Wiitanen of Seattle, WA Funeral services for Bill will be held 11 a.m. Thursday December 27, 2007, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with the Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Spring Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Thursday December 27, 2007, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Finlandia University in memory of Wilho M. Saari.
