Obituary of William Charles Chapin HancockWilliam Charles 'Skip' Chapin, 57, from Hancock, MI passed January 19, 2016 peacefully in his sleep. William was born September 6, 1958 to Robert Wheeler Chapin II and Hazel Viola (Sable) Chapin in Trenton, MI.William moved to the U.P. as a young child with his foster parents to Pelkie, MI where they had a dairy farm. William moved to the Copper Country area and graduated from Houghton High School. After high school he worked for Sub-Surfacing laying gas pipeline for the U.P., Walmart and retiring from Moyle, Inc.William enjoyed sports, all Michigan - Lions, Tigers, Wings. He always looked forward to family reunions, weddings, birthday parties. He definitely loved his family. He enjoyed bowling, play cards, model cars and working in his yard. He worked many years with the Copper Country Humane Society and rescued many animals by bringing them to his home. He was always there for others, no matter what they needed. William loved his country very much, he was proud to be an American.Preceding William in death are his parents, Robert W. Chapin II and Hazel V. (Sable) Chapin, his paternal grandparents Robert W. Chapin I and Edith Antionette (Morton) Chapin, maternal grandparents Orion Sable and Susan (Marsh) Sable. His sisters Linda and Claudia Chapin, Robin (Chapin) Cain, Frances (Reeves) Moore, Irene Mrkobrad. Brothers Marvin, Theodore, Robert W. Chapin III and Carl Chapin, Thomas Mrkobrad, Frank Reeves and William Apger.William is survived by his beloved companion Abby, foster parents William Apger and Twila (Harden) Apger. Sisters: Joann (Doug) Duylea, Colleen (Chapin) LaTourneau, Karen Chapin, Kathy (Tom) Techau, Cheryl Gumenick, Kathy (James) Ekdahl, Dawn (Paul) Maki, Laura (Jon) Klumpp and April Apger. Brothers: Philip (Georgia) Chapin, Steve Dale, Kenneth Apger, David (Gwen) Apger; aunts, uncles, cousin, very special nephew/son Michael (Sarah) Dale, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great niece.Private family services will be held per William's request. Family will gather to celebrate his life, his kindness, his love for others and to share memories.William is truly missed.
