Houghton Canal
William J. Dunstan, 90, a resident of the Houghton Canal passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at his home.
He was born on June 14, 1933, to the late William and Jennie (Vaataja) Dunstan. Bill graduated from Houghton High School, served in the United States Army, and was employed at the White Pine Copper Mine and Superior National Bank. He was married to the former Aili Ruohonen for 70 years and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2023.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; sister Millie Salo; brothers Alvin Gagnon and Robert Dunstan; and two great-grandchildren, Vanessa Narhi and Colt Anderson.
Surviving are: his children: Cindy (Marv) Heinonen, Chrissy (Luke) Loukus, Carol (Paul) Peterson, Bill (Jean) Dunstan, Jack (Margaret) Dunstan, Jeff Dunstan, Jon (Roberta) Dunstan and Jay (Colleen) Dunstan, 38 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also, two sisters Jean Juntikka and Charlene (Leon) LaPierre, sister-in-law: Carol Dunstan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Bill will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton, with Mark Halonen to officiate. Burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 1:00 pm until time of services at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.
