Obituary of William Jurva Cass City, MI William W. (Bill) Jurva, 91, of Cass City, MI and former area resident passed away March 4, 2012, in Cass City. He was born on January 24, 1921, a son of the late August and Hildur Jurva. Bill attended the EL Wright School in Hancock, Ferris Institute in Big Rapids, MI, and graduated from Wayne State University with a MD in History. Bill taught history in the Rochester, MI, School system. Mr. Jurva enlisted with his cousins Ed Koski with the United States Marine Corp during World War II. They both served honorably in Guadalcanal. Bill was attached to the 1st Marine Wing as a Crew chief on Henderson Field. Bill would be responsible to make sure all marine fighter planes would be ready to go on attack at all times. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his brothers, Sulo Alvar, Melvin, Gerald, and Jack, his sisters, Ruth Patterson and Lorna Jurva.
