William L. Kotila, 93, a resident of Quincy Location passed away Friday January 10, 2025, at his home following an apparent heart attack.

He was born July 17, 1931, in Pewabic Location, a son of the late Andrew and Florence (Wellems) Kotila.

On December 6, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Jean Baakko. On October 4, 2012, Jean preceded Bill in death.

Mr. Kotila served in the US Army during the early 50s, serving in Alaska. He had worked for C&H Copper Mines, Quincy Mining Company, and St. Joseph's Hospital in Hancock; to name a few. He then began a career working for Hancock Public Schools retiring after 22 years.

Mr. Kotila was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. He was a member of the Quincy Franklin Volunteer Fire Department for 35 years serving 22 of those as Fire Chief.

Preceding him in death were his wife Jean Kotila, his son Thomas, his parents, 11 siblings, and a great granddaughter Serenity.

Surviving are his children: Jack (Kathleen) Kotila of Fenton, MI, Larry (Joan) Kotila of Quincy Location, Kim Puuri of Hurontown, Jeanine (Thor Bentley) Kotila of Iron River: 16 grandchildren: 20 great grandchildren: 4 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A private family memorial service will take place at a later time. Burial will be in the spring in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock.
