Obituary of William Maatta Coburntown William "Bill" Kenneth Maatta, 78, of Coburntown, MI passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 13th, 2010 at the Omega House in Houghton, MI, where he was a resident there for five days. Bill was born June 25th, 1931 to the late John and Hilma (Kulju) Maatta. Growing up Bill attended Pewabic Schools. Through 1952-1954, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. On June 6th, 1959 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Norma Delia Joyal in Hancock, MI. Bill was employed by the White Pine Copper Mine. Bill took great pride in his family home, where he was born and lived for his whole life, and raised his family. Throughout his life he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, berry picking, saunas, working with wood, canning, casino trips, baseball, hockey, ice skating, skiing, dancing, cooking, and above all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Hilma, beloved wife of 48 years Norma, Brothers, George, Arthur, Sulo, Norman, and Elmer, and Sisters, Lyle, Ester, Helen, Alma, and Virginia Surviving: 5 Daughters, Judy (Gary) Swetich of Calumet, Cathy (Joseph) Palosaari of Franklin Twp., Shirley (Wayne) Hiltunen of Calumet, Paula (Duane) Simons of Calumet, Laura (William) Sever of Laurium. 9 Grandchildren, Julene Thomas, Jenny Maatta, Brooke Reilly, Zachary Palosaari, Steven Maatta, Jasmine, Seth, Sage, Sebastian Sever 3 Great-Grandchildren, Taylor and Tori Hendrickson, Tianna Kyllonen Sisters, Aileen (Albert) Koski, Martha Brotherton, Dorothy (Robert) Puffer, Lillian Maatta, Sister-in-laws, Audrey (David) Hebner, Lois Magray, Marlene (William) Goudge, Pauline (Nick) Stiles, Brother-in-laws, Gerald (Helen) Joyal, Norman (Pat) Joyal, Weldon (Nancy) Joyal, Aldred Joyal, Calvin Joyal, Rodderick (Sharon) Joyal, Joseph Poos, Richard Norlin, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends Bill was a very fun and loving person with a good sense of humor and a big heart. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and especially his cat "Susie". In honor of Bill's wishes cremation has taken place with private memorial services for immediate family.
