Obituary of William Oikarinen Lower Pewabic William "Bill" Oikarinen, 90, a former resident of Lower Pewabic passed away Tuesday evening May 10, 2005, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veteran's in Marquette where he had been a resident patient for the past two years. He was born on February 23, 1915, in Salo a son of the late Jafet and Maria (Moilanen) Oikarinen. As a child he attended the Salo School, and resided in the Salo area until 1966, when he moved to Lower Pewabic were he resided until 2003. On December 21, 1946 he was united in marriage to the former Ada Miller and she preceded him in death on July 29, 1983. Mr. Oikarinen had worked for Jim Gaspardo as a farmer for many years. He then worked for and retired from Soumi College. Bill was a veteran having served with the United States Army Air Force during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Also preceding him in death were 6 sisters: Mayme Dickson, Betty Sabatini, Mary Waara, Ellen Lehtinen, Martha Lehtinen, and Aili Waara. 2 Brothers: Jacob & Eino. Surviving are: 1 Sister-in-law: Linda Karinen of Marquette 1 Step-Daughter-in-law: Betty Voldarski Step Grandchildren & Step Great Grandchildren Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday May 13, 2005, at 1 P.M. in the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock with the Rev. Susan Odegard to officiate. Burial to be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 12 noon until time of services. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veteran's in Marquette or Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in Hancock.
